Digital Strips: podcast...
Did a review of the November 2008 ZUDA entries, of which RUMORS OF WAR is among. Go check it out, they said a lot of very nice things, enough to make me blush a lil in fact (it was a bit of a relief considering what the attitude was at the beginning of the show). It's done alphabetically, so the review for R.O.W. is about 70% of the way in.

VOTE for ME!!!
Writer Justin Jordan and I have the first 8 pages of our comic "Rumors of War" up at ZUDA, and need your support to keep us going on this.
Whether it be so you can see what happens next in the story, just like us and think "I can spare 2 minutes to look and vote", or don't really care except for the fact that I may have horrible blackmail photos of you (that's right, you + farm animal in a wig).... VOTE!!!
Have a look:
http://www.zudacomics.com/node/818
How to Vote:
1. You'll need an account at Zuda, but this is pretty quick. They send you an email confirmation. It should also take you back to the site.
2. Go to Rumors of War, and click on the VOTE button. It'll change from Red to Tan.
3. Then add the comic to your favorites - this counts towards the final tally as well.
4. Tell your friends!
spread the word... there will be advertising web buttons soon. If your in a voting mood this month then vote for Jordan/Bivens "Change with a Lovecraftian twist"

Maintaining Sanity
In order to stay halfway sane while working on two comic projects (one black & white and one in limited color) I decided to take a half hour or so each day to warm-up. Figure I can always work on improving my digital painting skills, so I'm working on a digital painting sketch here and there as needed.
so here's what I have done so far of my digital sketch... this is about one-tenth of the whole image, more will be revealed as time passes and I work on it.

Visiting Artist: Jon Foster
at SDCC this year I was lucky enough to find Jon Foster (http://www.jonfoster.com/), pull him aside and get the ball rolling for him to do the visiting artist thing at Northern Illinois University this year. I have absolutely no idea how many people that see this are close enough to NIU to make the trip, but Jon will be giving a demo, talk'n about illustration and generally shooting the shit October 23rd in Dekalb (roughly 45 minutes away from Chicago). This is open to the public, so if your interested show up.
The schedule of happenings that I was given is as follows:
10am- digital painting demo (room 307 of the art building)
2pm- portfolio critiques
5pm- Illustration lecture (room 100 of the art building)
Later- group dinner (not exactly sure where they have that planned yet)
if you can make it then I hope to see you there.

did a lil character stuff today...
and had a bit of a realization. When I find new tools to play with (new types of pencils, erasers, pens, ect) I tend to leave some of my old favorites behind. I need to stop doing that and learn to use whatever works... ie: don't fix what ain't broken, or continue to grow but don't forget what got you to this point already.
Anyway, a couple of character sketches I agreed to do for my friend Devin, on a project he's playing with:

werewolf warm-up
a practice/warm up sketch today (I don't do them near enough). In the past couple of years I've been struggling with the look of my finished products that would be seen in B&W. That being the case and me having another B&W project in front of me I'm trying to find a look that I can feel satisfied with for at least a lil' bit.

Commercial Interuption
And now, a word from our sponsor:
BABY IN A BOTTLE, the perfect cure for what ails you. Anything from gout, to herpes, to a minor case of death is no problem what-so-ever when you have these adorable tykes on your side.
HA-CHA-CHA
p.s. yes, at the moment a lil on the tired side, a tiny bit crazy, and finding many beautifully disturbing things way too funny.

"Does it hurt?" Panel
another panel I'm coloring at the moment.
In other news I will be writing and illustrating for another anthology, can't talk about it yet but still, yay and such.
Also, I got a good friend working on designing a website for me (a really, truly website). Which is something that's been on my to do list, but I haven't personally had time to do thanks to deadline commitments. I don't know when it'll be up and running as this will rely on me as much as it does her.

Splash Page
It's a splash page!!! I decided fro this project that i would illustrate splash pages with a slightly different technique that I employed during Comic Book Tattoo. It eats up a lil more time, hence the reason I'm limiting my use of it. These are still just pencils and will show up, colored, eventually.
Go Team
I get to be part of my first book signing Friday at SDCC. I'll be at the Image booth from 10-11, so yay and such. There will be a couple of big name people I'll be signing with, so when everyone comes up to get signatures from them I will be the guy acting blissfully geeky next to them.
Oh yeah, check these out:

I LIVE!!! (for now at least)
I move onto round 2 of Last Man Standing 3 (I really thought I was gonna get my butt kicked). Also, I have now been commissioned to do my first book-cover... when I have more particulars on this I'll talk about it more. As I now have a lot of deadlines to compete with my day job (remember, for the moment I pay my bills as a butcher)I am going to be hunkering down and working my fingers to the bone. Despite this, I will try to post a bit more in the future.
